MOVE A BIKE

BEGINNERS GUIDE TO IMPORTING
A MOTORBIKE FROM THE U.S.A
Can you guy's pick-up from any point in the U.S?
Yes, as long as the shipper can complete the necessary requirements (refer below)
So you don't need to confine your search to just California.
In fact in our experience, the biggest origin point for bikes is in the 'mid-west'.
How long will it take?
We have a weekly 'less than container-load' service into both Auckland & Christchurch.
The broad transit from terminal cut-offs are:
Los Angeles to Auckland
Los Angeles to Christchurch
Chicago to Auckland
Chicago to Christchurch
New York to Auckland

What does my shipper need to do?
There are three important points which are non-negotiable:
- The bike must have a 'Title' or 'Salvage Certificate' (refer below)
- It must be crated for its protection.
- The pick-up point must be a commercial location with a dock or a site with access to a fork-lift.
Make sure any timber they use in the crate is treated so it meets strict MAF regulations or even better perhaps suggest to you shipper that they obtain a generic 'ex factory' crate from a local motorbike shop.
Needless to say the bike must be spotlessly clean, de-fuelled and the battery disconnected.
What paperwork does my shipper need?
All road-worthy bikes are 'titled'.
U.S Customs will not permit a complete 'titled' motor-bike to be exported without a physical copy of the title.
So if you want to import a complete bike that 'title' is mandatory - in fact we won't proceed with a pick-up until we are positive the title exists.
If the bike is a salvage job it will have a 'salvage certificate', then again, we'll need a copy of this to clear U.S Customs.
Footnote; motor-bike spares do not require this formal procedure.
How much?
The freighting costs are calculated based on the weight and measurement.
From the door to the closest terminal e.g. Chicago you will pay on the weight.
From the U.S terminal to N.Z terminal you'll pay on the size in cubic metres.
To calculate a cost only takes 30 minutes.
We'll need......
- the zip code of the pick-up location
- an estimated weight
- an estimated size
The only cost's we can't pre-quote is that of the MAF Department and that largely depends on the condition of the motorbike and the wood crating used.
Our agents have major receiving terminals in Los Angeles, Oakland, Portland, Seattle, Chicago, Atlanta, New Jersey.
What about a ball-park cost?
We have moved over 300 bikes ex the U.S and over-all the average cost is around $1,500.
Note: This is not a quote, there are heaps of variables. We will always give you a specific quote before we proceed.
What happens when it arrives?
We'll undertake both Customs & MAF Clearance in consultation with you.
The Customs Department charge G.S.T. based-on the cost of the goods plus the freight together.
Our terms are 'payment on pick-up'.
Is Insurance Included?
No!
There is no in-built insurance cover with sea-freight, nor carrier liability.
Put simply - it's all care no responsibility.
If you require cover we recommend you contact your broker & request a rate for Marine Insurance.
