GUIDE TO SHIPPING A VEHICLE EX THE U.S.A
How do you move them?
We only do dedicated 'straight-load' containers.
We do not hold on to cars for indeterminate periods in order to build a profitable container.
Your vehicle begins its journey the moment we get 'the green light'.
We only use the service you requested.
How long will it take?
That depends on how much you want to pay?
There are three major options in terms of service;
- Direct Sailings = broadly 30-35 days
- Mid-Range Tranship via Asia = 50 days
- Slow Boat Tranship = 60 to 90 days
You get to decide the service you want, we don't decide for you.
How much?
There are just too many variables to even hazard a guess as to cost.
Factors that come into the equation include (a.) location relative to port (b.) the transit time you were seeking (c.) who's doing the loading etc.
Please contact us and we can complete a full quote based on your needs and the set-up of your shipper in 'the states.
An accurate quote takes 1-2 working days.
Who loads the vehicle?
Generally the shipper, that's the guy you are purchasing it from.
That's the cheapest method.
Your shipper will need to get the vehicle to a dock to complete the loading & get between 2 to 3 hours to complete the process.
Delivery to a dock is an important prerequisite when you are discussing shipping arrangements
Can your agents load a vehicle?
Sorry we don't get involved loading containers ex the door.
But it is possible for us to arrange the loading ex 'coastal' terminals like Los Angeles, Oakland, Houston, New York etc.
By the way, our agents can only load 'on the floor'.
Who unloads the vehicle?
Nationwide it's a MAF Department requirement for vehicles to be unloaded at a registered location.
So we can't arrange for a container to be delivered to your door.
These approved MAF locations could be our own terminals or one you are familiar with.
We'll discuss this with you so you are familiar with the process as well as the options.
What is required of the guy selling it to me?
Three important things;
1.) Cooperation
The guy selling you the car has to do his bit.
For example he may need to get it to a local dock for loading.
He will need to courier the paperwork to our agents.
Take it from us - uncooperative sellers who won't get off their sofa to help you are best avoided.
2.) Title
99% of road-worthy vehicles in the United States are 'titled'.
The odd exceptions are vintage vehicles registered prior to titles being issued in their State of ownership.
U.S Customs will not permit any vehicle to be exported without (a.) a physical copy of the title (b.) or an official State letter stating that the vehicle was registered prior to titles existing in that state.
We won't proceed with a pick-up until we are positive the title exists and you should avoid purchases where a title does not exist.
3.) A Clean Car
When the doors open the MAF Officer inspecting your car, needs to be greeted with a spotless vehicle.
Make sure the vehicle is immaculate, inside & out, when it leaves the U.S.
Is Insurance Included?
No!
There is no in-built insurance cover with sea-freight, nor is there any carrier liability.
Put simply -it's all care no responsibility.
If you require cover we recommend you contact your broker & request a rate for Marine Insurance or we can assist.
